About Us

Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders

For generations, leadership in American organizations has been defined by exclusivity, limiting opportunities for underrepresented individuals. Talented candidates from underserved backgrounds have faced barriers that their privileged peers did not, creating an uneven playing field.

In 2016, our cofounders set out to change this, challenging business leaders to build a more inclusive future. They envisioned a world where every talented individual—regardless of background—could access the opportunities they deserve. This vision became the foundation of The Script.

Since then, we’ve been on a mission to break down barriers, replacing them with pathways to opportunity, mentorship, and community. Our Internship Program connects underrepresented students and graduates with paid roles at top companies. With over 500 interns placed—many transitioning into full-time positions—we prove that when access is equal, success follows.

But our work goes beyond hiring. The Script advocates for equitable pay, career growth, and leadership development for people of color and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Through mentorship and career pipelines, we empower individuals to rise into leadership roles, shaping a workforce that reflects the world we live in.

We believe companies and communities are stronger when they embrace people from many different backgrounds and walks of life. The economic impact of an inclusive workforce creates lasting change, increasing earning potential and stability for future generations.

Together, we are shaping a future where leadership is defined by talent and vision—not privilege. This is just the beginning.

Our Evolution: From Emerging Leaders to The Script

Honoring Our Legacy, Embracing Our Future

You may have known us as the Emerging Leaders Internship, but while our name has changed, our mission remains unwavering. Now called The Script, our new identity reflects our deep commitment to empowering underrepresented individuals to enter the workforce and take control of their own narratives.

For too long, people from marginalized backgrounds have been defined by limitations imposed by society. At The Script, we believe in rewriting those stories—creating opportunities, fostering leadership, and ensuring every individual has the chance to shape their own future. Our name may be new, but our vision is stronger than ever: to build a workforce where talent, not privilege, determines success.

Our Mission Statement

To empower underrepresented talent to become our business and community leaders by providing career development resources, matching them with job opportunities with paths to leadership, and supporting them with a community of companies and professionals dedicated to their success.

The Script is made possible through the intentional support of donors, partners, volunteers and advocates of our work.
